A cut sentence is how a country is taught a crime. Read the caption against the recording.

A political argument in this country is now usually a fight about a sentence that has been removed from the paragraph it lived in. The method is stable enough to teach. A phrase is cut. A caption is written as if the phrase were the whole. The caption is repeated until it is the memory. Anyone who plays the rest of the recording is treated as a partisan, or worse. You do not have to like Donald Trump to see the pattern. You only have to be willing to sit still for the next sentence.
The table that follows is that homework. The left column is what ran. The right column is what the recording still contains. We are not asking you to become a fan. We are asking you to hear the rest of the answer — and then, in the last rows, to hear the lines we will not wash, because a journal that only corrects in one direction is not correcting anything.
What we will not wash
He said fight like hell on January 6. He said stand back and stand by to the Proud Boys. He tweeted when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Those are on tape. Play them next to the sentences they buried. The country can survive an ugly sentence. It cannot survive a fake one.
